Instagram is one of the most popular social media sites out there today with over 1 billion monthly active users and 500 million daily users. It is a great platform for businesses to advertise on, and one that over 71% of businesses are using.
As one of the fastest growing social media channels out there, here are 5 Instagram tips to help you improve your profile and stand out from the competition.
1. Make sure you are using a “Business Profile”
Instagram offers two different types of accounts, a personal account and a business account. Business profiles offer more features that are helpful to a business than the personal accounts. These business features include a space to link to your website, contact information (email, phone number and/or address), the category your business falls under, as well as call-to-action buttons that can be customized.
2. Complete Your Business Profile
Instagram business profiles give you extra space to tell customers about your organization. So take advantage of it! Make sure your profile contains the following information:
- The name of your business
- The category your business falls under
- A brief description of your business
- A website link
- Contact information
- Call to action buttons - these can be customized and, depending on your business, could include “Call, Email, Shop, Get Tickets, Book Appointment," etc.
3. Post Content that is Focused on Visuals
Instagram is a photo-based social media site, so make sure you are posting high-quality photos or graphics that are going to catch the attention of your followers. Descriptions do accompany each photo but aren’t the main focus of the platform. And only two lines of the description will automatically show up if your caption is longer than that.
4. Avoid Adding Links to your Posts
Unlike other social media platforms, adding links in your Instagram posts isn’t the best way to drive your followers to your website. Instagram posts do not display clickable links, so if they are included in a post, users will have to copy and paste them to visit the page on the site you are wanting to send them to. One way around this is to change the link that’s in your bio and include a message on your post sending them up to your bio to check out the link!
5. Try Out the Story Feature
Instagram stories are increasing in popularity and are an additional way to get information about your business out to your followers. Instagram stories can be added for all your followers to see and are only visible for a limited amount of time. If the story post is something you want to keep on your profile, there is an option to create a “Highlight” that allows story posts to remain on your Instagram profile for visitors to view.
